We understand that these difficult times are especially hard on immigrant communities who must deal with the unique challenges of both the coronavirus and their immigration status. Recent guidance issued by the California Department of Public Health has helped to clarify some of the policies and procedures that may affect intending immigrants and nonimmigrants alike:
-
All individuals, regardless of immigration status, are protected from the outbreak and can seek testing and treatment when necessary. Please do not forgo treatment for COVID-19 out of fear of negative repercussions.
-
All testing, treatment, and preventative care related to COVID-19 will not be considered in determining whether or not an individual is inadmissible pursuant to the public charge rule
-
Public health assistance for the vaccination, testing and treatment of symptoms of other communicable diseases will also be excluded in determining the applicability of the public charge rule.
If you have any questions about the receipt of public benefits and their effects on your immigration status, please contact our office for a consultation so we may provide you with further assistance based on your individual situation.
